Whitney Elementary Students Named Straight A All-Stars
CLEVELAND, OHIO - May 16, 2011 - On Friday, May 13th, the Cleveland Cavaliers visited Whitney Elementary School in Strongsville as a part of the Cavs Straight A All-Stars program, presented by Westfield Insurance. Ahmaad, Moondog and Sir C.C. were on hand to present a check for $1,000 to the school for having the most straight As in the second grading period.
Moondog and Sir CC threw out t-shirts, played 2-on-2 against two students and two teachers and gave the students a dance lesson. Greg Wetherwax from Westfield Insurance and Cheryl Bruyere from Brooker Insurance Agency were on hand to present Principal Kathleen Urmston with the $1,000 check, courtesy of Westfield Insurance. Whitney Elementary School had more than 60 students earn straight As in the second grading period.
The Cavaliers received more than 2,000 entries for the first grading period. Three hundred students were chosen at random and invited to the Cavs vs. Oklahoma City Thunder game on March 13th.
About Straight A All-Stars: Straight A All-Stars is a program that rewards students for high scholastic achievement. The program is open to all elementary and middle school students, grades K-8 in Cuyahoga, Lorain, Summit, Medina, Portage, Geauga, Lake, and Ashtabula counties. Students who receive straight A’s at the end of the second grading periods will be entered into a contest to win two (2) tickets to a Cavaliers home game! After each grading period, the Cleveland Cavaliers randomly select 300 entrants to receive game tickets and a t-shirt. All entrants receive an official Straight "A" All-Stars certificate and book cover!
